SUMMARY:Aidan Thorne and Jason Ball - Poems of a Space
DESCRIPTION:Poems of a space is the second album of the duo of guitarist Jason Ball and bassist Aidan Thorne. All of the compositions on this album are written and arranged by the duo.\n\nThe album is meant to stir memories of the listener and create a feeling of nostalgia or of having heard the music before in the past. Guitar ambience engulfs the compositions like a fog instilling ideas and memories.\n\nLike their previous release\, there is still a large emphasis on welsh landscape. Banc Y Celyn is the local hill overlooking Aidan’s house in Powys and Clouds was written after a hike up Sugar Loaf near Abergvenny.\n\nThe album still is deeply rooted in jazz and improvisation and some of the compositions were formed by recording loose jam sessions. You can hear influences of 70s ECM records such as Terje Rypdall and Bill Frizell.\n\n“…a fantastic deep dive into lesser-known Welsh folk tunes”\n\nJude Rogers\, The Guardian\n\n“an unforgettable musical experience”\n\n**** Ian Mann\, Jazzmann Blog\n\n“…a beguiling instrumental set that transmogrifies folk songs into delicate\, exploratory improvisations. Throughout combining a resonating bowed bass with guitar work redolent of John McLaughlin on Miles Davis’ In a Silent Way. Praise\, indeed!\n\nTim Cumming\, Songlines
