SUMMARY:Aidan Thorne and Jason Ball - Poems of a Space
DESCRIPTION:Poems of a Space\, is the second album from the guitarist\nJason Ball and bassist Aidan Thorne. All of the compositions\non this album were written\, arranged\, recorded and mixed\nby the duo.\nThe concept of the album was to invoke nostalgia\, rekindle a\nmemory of a time and/or place. The pieces are engulfed in a\nfog of guitar ambience and measured 6 string bass\ntextures.\nAs with their previous release\, Archwilio’r Traddodiad |\nExploring the Tradition\, there is an emphasis on experiences\nwithin the Welsh landscape. The song Banc Y Celyn\, refers to\nthe hill overlooking Aidans home in Powys. And the track\nClouds\, was written after a hike up the Sugar Loaf near\nAbergavenny.\nDeeply rooted in jazz\, the style carefully glides between\nwritten and improvised elements. Some of the compositions\nwere realised and refined from recordings of loose jam\nsessions. One may hear nods to influences from 70’s ECM\nrecords such as Terje Rypdall or Bill Frisell. \n  \n“……. A fantastic deep dive into lesser-\nknown Welsh folk tunes”\nArchwilio’r Traddodiad | Exploring the\nTradition\nJude Rodgers\, The Guardian \n“An unforgettable musical experience”\n**** Ian Mann\, Jazzmann Blog \n“……… a beguiling instrumental set that\ntransmogrifies folk songs into delicate\,\nexploratory improvisations. Throughout\,\ncombining a resonating bowed bass with\nguitar work redolent of John McLaughlin on\nMiles Davis’ In a Silent Way. Praise\,\nindeed!”\nTim Cumming\, Songlines

SUMMARY:Jon Crespo Quartet - Beyond Armstrong
DESCRIPTION:Jon Crespo is a musician with vast global performance and touring experience. His credits include \nLenny Kravitz\, The Beach Boys\, The Box Tops\, KC and the Sunshine Band\, The Platters\, Michael \nBall and Gareth Gates. \nBeyond Armstrong is a unique tribute to trumpets players who were inspired by and appeared on the \njazz scene after Louis Armstrong. Arguably\, one would suggest that modern jazz trumpet playing \nowes its roots and influences to him. In some way\, every trumpet player owes approach\, \nunderstanding and their sound to Armstrong. This tribute will explore and pay homage to some of \nthose players – including Miles Davis\, Tom Harrell\, Woody Shaw and more. \n \nJon Crespo – trumpet and flugelhorn \nMark Sambell – keys \nJon Goode – bass \nGreg Evans – drums
