SUMMARY:Macbeth Macbeth Macbeth Macbeth Macbeth
DESCRIPTION:Join Savoy Youth Theatre as they showcase their latest National Theatre Connections performance\, Macbeth Macbeth Macbeth Macbeth Macbeth\, written by Kirsty Housley.\n \n\nWhen an alarm is deliberately set off during their GCSE drama exam\, a group of students find themselves in detention. As they struggle to navigate the seemingly endless tasks they’ve been set as punishment\, questions are raised. Who set off the alarm and why? Will they ever get out of this detention? Will it cost them their GCSE? And why is Shakespeare still so popular?  \nSo begins a meta deconstruction of the play as we move from classroom to theatre\, artifice to reality. The performers switch between their characters and their real selves as they interrogate Shakespeare\, the canon\, the education system\, the nature of theatre\, and the world itself. They begin to wonder whether the classics really are that classic\, or whether we might need to tell a different story altogether…. \nContent guidance:   \no Themes exploring the climate emergency \no Themes exploring the cost of living crisis \no Depictions of anxiety \no References to colonialism

SUMMARY:GROTTO
DESCRIPTION:A legendary figure has signed into the GROTTO for some out-of-season rehab. Is he the real thing\, or another otherwise unemployed actor between Santa gigs? That’s the set up for a brand-new award-winning character stand-up by the critically acclaimed\, Monmouthshire writer and performer Terry Victor – a jolly\, white-bearded\, fat man who has definitely seen the GROTTO from the dark side. \nAt heart GROTTO is a powerful\, comic celebration of diversity; a stockingful of juicy namedrops\, super-salacious Santa secrets and Xmas rapping\, dragged up with a bijou touch of gorgeous zhoush. We all know that there can only be one Santa but as more and more diverse personalities escape into the GROTTO it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas will never be the same again. \nGrotto is UNSEASONABLE UNREASONABLE AND UNSUITABLE FOR BRATS. \nSome review quotes from X and Facebook: \n“This is truly what the Fringe was created for\, a creative and wonderfully \nbatsh*t performance that I will struggle to forget any time soon. A must see!” \n“so much gayer than I expected” \n“hilarious and twisted” \n“mad but funny and brilliant” \n“Some very clever jokes interwoven throughout ” \nGrotto was winner of the Show Chugger Award at the Edinburgh Fringe 2023 & Starburst Magazine’s pick of the Greater Manchester Fringe 2024

SUMMARY:Maybe Dick
DESCRIPTION:MAYBE DICK\nBy John Hewer\nBased on the novel ‘Moby-Dick’ by Herman Melville\nDirected by Bruce Knight \nHerman Melville’s classic tale of revenge and retribution is retold in this inventive\, comic retelling on the high seas from the company behind ‘Just Like That! The Tommy Cooper Show’ and ‘Dracula! One Bloody Fang After Another’. \nNantucket\, 1841. Ishmael signs on to the Pequod\, and witnesses the perils of nature\, obsession\, punning and physical comedy\, as Captain Ahab conducts a reckless pursuit of the savage white whale\, Moby Dick. \nAll plot will be lampooned. All jokes will be harpooned. \n“Absolutely brought the house down” – Lincolnshire World \n“‘Carry On Moby Dick'” – North West End\n“You will be hit with wave after wave of silliness\, leaving a warm glow and a great big smile.” – Review Culture\n“You don’t need to know Moby-Dick to get the jokes. And there are plenty of jokes.” – Voicebox\n“This is fun knockabout stuff; we are never more than 30 seconds from the next punchline and Hewer has excellent comic timing and a winning naïveté.” – North West End\n“Hewer manages to play all the parts and maintain narrative coherence along with a stream of jokes and the odd musical interlude.” – Chiswick Calendar\n“The jokes came thick and fast. We left with huge\, aching smiles.” – TheatreFest \nNB: 12 + Age Restriction.

SUMMARY:The Play Group presents Play Time
DESCRIPTION:The Play Group presents Play Time by Cecilia Bawler\nThe Play Group are delighted to present the premiere production of Play Time\, the hilarious new comedy.\nIt’s the 1980s\, a time of big hair\, bold fashion choices\, and smiley children’s television programmes. “Play Time” is an institution\, loved by all its young viewers. But behind the scenes\, things aren’t quite as bright and positive as they seem. Can the director keep his feuding presenters in check? Will new blood revive the flagging programme? Can they keep the executive producer from replacing them in the schedule? Does the puppeteer actually know what day it is? And who is Angie anyway?\nContains adult content and some mild swearing.\nThursday 26th October\nFriday 27th October\nSaturday 28th October\n£10\nEntry by pre-booked tickets only\, available via The Play Group’s website:\n\ntheplaygroupabergavenny.co.uk
