Virtuoso electric bass player Shez Raja is famed for his high energy live shows, unique Indojazzfunk sound and global jazz star collaborations with Mike Stern, Randy Brecker, Trilok Gurtu and Wayne Krantz. Shez was recently voted one of the ‘Hottest Bass Players in the World’ by readers of Bass Player magazine.
Following spectacular performances at top UK venues including Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, Royal Festival Hall and the Jazz Café as well as major international jazz festivals from Russia to New Zealand, Shez and his band have amassed a devoted following and forged a reputation as one of the most entertaining live acts on the scene today.
For his latest album Tales from the Punjab, Shez digs deep into his rich South Asian heritage to create his most exquisite and heartfelt album to date, recorded whilst on an adventure to the Punjab to immerse himself in the musical culture of his roots.
Shez will be recreating the colours from the new album as well as performing favourites from his considerable back catalogue. He leads a stunning line-up tonight that features internationally renowned saxophone star Tony Kofi (Courtney Pine, Ornette Coleman), award-winning Indian classical singer Unnati Dasgupta, tabla maestro Gurdain Rayatt plus the incredible Sophie Alloway on drums and Lewis Moody on keyboards.
