At The Melville Centre, everyone here (from Directors to café assistants, advisors to events stewards), except the Centre Manager, is a volunteer, and that’s why we work so well, because the funding we receive can go directly to the creative programme, enabling us to provide affordable events, classes and workshops for all the community. We are always seeking new members of our Volunteer Team, who we treasure and who are very much appreciated! On Saturday 30th April, 11am - 1pm, we are holding a Coffee Morning for anyone interested about finding out more. If you would like to join one [...]

The Girl Who Couldn't Pretend: Sunday 27th February, The Melville Theatre                     There was once a girl who couldn’t pretend. One day, while mum is busy, she’s left alone in a room with nothing but a box. But maybe a box isn’t just a box after all… The Girl who Couldn’t Pretend is a whirlwind adventure story of a girl who tries to find her imagination. Helped by many characters along the way, she hunts through forests, sea and sky to pretend her way into some of the most amazing places – [...]

This summer, here at the Melville we were really pleased to be successful in our application  to the Arts Council for Wales for Cultural Recovery funding. We've done marvels with it:  been able to re-decorate the main corridor,  & the loos, thank goodness, we've re carpeted everywhere and installed the drama library in the built in  Victorian shelving in Meeting Room2. We've also had help  to totally reorganise the props sheds, so much so that we were able to send a 'sea set', complete with lobster pots, anchors, nets, down to the WMC last week   for the schools' 'Powerful Interventions' pop ups at the Festival of [...]

The Melville Centre hosts the Blodeuo Project

The Melville Centre hosts the Blodeuo Project The Melville Centre hosts the Blodeuo Project which came together in Autumn 2018. The Arts Council of Wales kindly sponsored a  period of action research  in which over 20 individuals participated on a weekly basis in  our studio theatre. A diverse ability drama group took shape and further Arts Council of Wales funding, with  committed local support and  four excellent  facilitators, has  enabled  good work to proceed. The Project takes its name from the drama group’s first performance which told the ancient Welsh story of Blodeuwedd. Somewhere near Castell Mur, overlooking Trawsfynydd, [...]
