Piskey Led + Bryony Sier
Quarterly Folk Night at The Melville Centre.
This month we are joined by the almighty ‘Piskey Led’…
In Cornwall, to be ‘piskey led’ means to be led astray by faeries or pixies, known in the Cornish dialect as ‘piskeys’. Myth has it that when walking home from the town, poor souls would be tricked into wandering off into the wilderness by these mischievous little creatures. In reality, folk looking for an excuse to explain their errant behaviour would blame it on the piskeys, or lost drunkards would think themselves tricked by them, inspiring the local saying: ‘piskey led is often whiskey led!’.
In the spirit of leading people off the beaten track, Cardiff-based folk band Piskey Led play music that conjures a kaleidoscopic mix of traditions and styles, drawn from Ireland, Cornwall, and England. With Cornish flautist Katie Lower, Lancastrian double-bassist Josh Goodey, and Irish guitarist and mandolin player, James Bower and Chris Mercer, they promise an incandescent show with a set-list hard to forget.
Support comes from Merthyr based acclaimed folk-pop artist, Bryony Sier.
