Abergavenny Film Society, the longest running in Wales, was started by Dave and Carol Phillips and a group of friends in 1978.
Screening seasons of films selected from World and UK Independent Cinema titles, the Society offers carefully chosen programmes which are both diverse and inclusive. Over the years, the popularity of the Society has grown and in these days of instant access online streaming of films, we are delighted that people are keen to visit The Melville Centre and enjoy the experience of watching films in a relaxed environment. We are pleased to be able to offer high definition picture and sound quality in a comfortable theatre with excellent acoustics.
We always encourage lively discussion of films and invite audience members to rate the film they have just seen. This valuable feedback helps us with future programming.
Membership of our Society is open to people aged 16 and over. Membership lasts for one season, normally from September through to April. The 2021 season, however, will run from January to April with films screened weekly on Wednesdays. Each film will be screened twice – at 3.30pm at 7.30pm.
Normally, we welcome non-members to our screenings but, unfortunately, for the 2021 season, we will need to restrict bookings to members only with reservations by advance booking only.
Please note that most films in our programme will be screened with subtitles.

Many of our members visit The Borderlines Film Festival which is normally held in late February /March at The Courtyard in Hereford and other venues across Herefordshire. The festival screens an excellent selection of films and is able to promote a number of brand new titles before they go on general release in cinemas.
