The Aspern Papers by Henry James is a story of obsession and ambition, set in Venice in the early part of the 20th Century. The Papers themselves are love letters from a deceased poet, Jeffrey Aspern, to the woman who inspired his greatest poetry. Kept secret after the poet’s untimely death, they now become the object of a quest by the story’s central character, Henry Jarvis – a man who will stop at nothing to get hold of them. Passions run deep and betrayal rears its ugly head as Jarvis inches his way towards his goal – the love letters of Jeffrey Aspern. Will he succeed in gaining what he most desires?
