Abergavenny’s Suitcase Theatre Company presents another classic of modern theatre, The Caucasian Chalk Circle, Bertolt Brecht’s heartfelt drama of love and compassion. When war breaks out in the fictional country of Grusinia, the wife of the governor of the city of Nuka has only one thought on her mind – saving her own skin, and the contents of her expensive wardrobe. She flees, leaving her baby son, Michael, behind. Grusha, a kitchen maid, picks up the baby to save it. And thus begins a story of passion and emotions as Grusha fights to preserve the life of the baby whom no one else seems to want or care for. This production features a live band (guitars, banjo, bass, violin and percussion) to back up the specially written music, full of haunting melodies and powerful lyrics. Tickets available from the start of October from Suitcase Theatre Company’s website: www.suitcasetheatrecompany.com.
