Join us for a hands-on cultural embroidery workshop at The Melville
Centre. Learn traditional cross-stitch techniques passed down through
generations, connect with community, and explore the deep history
and symbolism behind these beautiful geometric patterns.
All skill levels are welcome — no prior sewing experience is needed!
BRING YOUR OWN CLOTHING!
Instead of stitching on standard canvas, this unique workshop will
teach you how to embellish your own belongings.
* What to bring: Please bring a plain textile item or an article of
your own clothing (such as a denim jacket, tote bag, canvas pouch,
or cotton shirt).
* What we provide: We will provide waste canvas, embroidery threads,
and needles.
You will learn how to work a beautiful Tatreez motif directly onto
your garment, removing the waste canvas at the end for a perfect,
seamless finish!
